Various inet fields are currently racy.
do_ip_setsockopt() and do_ip_getsockopt() are mostly holding
the socket lock, but some (fast) paths do not.
Use a new inet->inet_flags to hold atomic bits in the series.
Remove inet->cmsg_flags, and use instead 9 bits from inet_flags.

Take into account the IPV6_TCLASS socket option (DSCP) in
ip6_datagram_flow_key_init(). Otherwise fib6_rule_match() can't
properly match the DSCP value, resulting in invalid route lookup.
For example:
ip route add unreachable table main 2001:db8::10/124
ip route add table 100 2001:db8::10/124 dev eth0
ip -6 rule add dsfield 0x04 table 100
echo test | socat - UDP6:[2001:db8::11]:54321,ipv6-tclass=0x04
Without this patch, socat fails at connect() time ("No route to host")
because the fib-rule doesn't jump to table 100 and the lookup ends up
being done in the main table.

Change the behaviour of ip6_datagram_connect to consider the interface
set by the IPV6_UNICAST_IF socket option, similarly to udpv6_sendmsg.
This change is the IPv6 counterpart of the fix for IP_UNICAST_IF.
The tests introduced by that patch showed that the incorrect
behavior is present in IPv6 as well.
This patch fixes the broken test.

When we call connect() for a UDP socket in a reuseport group, we have
to update sk->sk_reuseport_cb->has_conns to 1. Otherwise, the kernel
could select a unconnected socket wrongly for packets sent to the
connected socket.
However, the current way to set has_conns is illegal and possible to
trigger that problem. reuseport_has_conns() changes has_conns under
rcu_read_lock(), which upgrades the RCU reader to the updater. Then,
it must do the update under the updater's lock, reuseport_lock, but
it doesn't for now.
For this reason, there is a race below where we fail to set has_conns
resulting in the wrong socket selection. To avoid the race, let's split
the reader and updater with proper locking.
cpu1 cpu2
+----+ +----+
__ip[46]_datagram_connect() reuseport_grow()
. .
|- reuseport_has_conns(sk, true) |- more_reuse = __reuseport_alloc(more_socks_size)
| . |
| |- rcu_read_lock()
| |- reuse = rcu_dereference(sk->sk_reuseport_cb)
| |
| | | /* reuse->has_conns == 0 here */
| | |- more_reuse->has_conns = reuse->has_conns
| |- reuse->has_conns = 1 | /* more_reuse->has_conns SHOULD BE 1 HERE */
| | |
| | |- rcu_assign_pointer(reuse->socks[i]->sk_reuseport_cb,
| | | more_reuse)
| `- rcu_read_unlock() `- kfree_rcu(reuse, rcu)
|
|- sk->sk_state = TCP_ESTABLISHED
Note the likely(reuse) in reuseport_has_conns_set() is always true,
but we put the test there for ease of review. [0]
For the record, usually, sk_reuseport_cb is changed under lock_sock().
The only exception is reuseport_grow() & TCP reqsk migration case.
1) shutdown() TCP listener, which is moved into the latter part of
reuse->socks[] to migrate reqsk.
2) New listen() overflows reuse->socks[] and call reuseport_grow().
3) reuse->max_socks overflows u16 with the new listener.
4) reuseport_grow() pops the old shutdown()ed listener from the array
and update its sk->sk_reuseport_cb as NULL without lock_sock().
shutdown()ed TCP sk->sk_reuseport_cb can be changed without lock_sock(),
but, reuseport_has_conns_set() is called only for UDP under lock_sock(),
so likely(reuse) never be false in reuseport_has_conns_set().

UDP reuseport groups can hold a mix unconnected and connected sockets.
Ensure that connections only receive all traffic to their 4-tuple.
Fast reuseport returns on the first reuseport match on the assumption
that all matches are equal. Only if connections are present, return to
the previous behavior of scoring all sockets.
Record if connections are present and if so (1) treat such connected
sockets as an independent match from the group, (2) only return
2-tuple matches from reuseport and (3) do not return on the first
2-tuple reuseport match to allow for a higher scoring match later.
New field has_conns is set without locks. No other fields in the
bitmap are modified at runtime and the field is only ever set
unconditionally, so an RMW cannot miss a change.

Commit 2efd4fca703a ("ip: in cmsg IP(V6)_ORIGDSTADDR call
pskb_may_pull") avoided a read beyond the end of the skb linear
segment by calling pskb_may_pull.
That function can trigger a BUG_ON in pskb_expand_head if the skb is
shared, which it is when when peeking. It can also return ENOMEM.
Avoid both by switching to safer skb_header_pointer.

Ensure an unbound datagram skt is chosen when not in a VRF. The check
for a device match in compute_score() for UDP must be performed when
there is no device match. For this, a failure is returned when there is
no device match. This ensures that bound sockets are never selected,
even if there is no unbound socket.
Allow IPv6 packets to be sent over a datagram skt bound to a VRF. These
packets are currently blocked, as flowi6_oif was set to that of the
master vrf device, and the ipi6_ifindex is that of the slave device.
Allow these packets to be sent by checking the device with ipi6_ifindex
has the same L3 scope as that of the bound device of the skt, which is
the master vrf device. Note that this check always succeeds if the skt
is unbound.
Even though the right datagram skt is now selected by compute_score(),
a different skt is being returned that is bound to the wrong vrf. The
difference between these and stream sockets is the handling of the skt
option for SO_REUSEPORT. While the handling when adding a skt for reuse
correctly checks that the bound device of the skt is a match, the skts
in the hashslot are already incorrect. So for the same hash, a skt for
the wrong vrf may be selected for the required port. The root cause is
that the skt is immediately placed into a slot when it is created,
but when the skt is then bound using SO_BINDTODEVICE, it remains in the
same slot. The solution is to move the skt to the correct slot by
forcing a rehash.

After commit 6b229cf77d68 ("udp: add batching to udp_rmem_release()")
the sk_rmem_alloc field does not measure exactly anymore the
receive queue length, because we batch the rmem release. The issue
is really apparent only after commit 0d4a6608f68c ("udp: do rmem bulk
free even if the rx sk queue is empty"): the user space can easily
check for an empty socket with not-0 queue length reported by the 'ss'
tool or the procfs interface.
We need to use a custom UDP helper to report the correct queue length,
taking into account the forward allocation deficit.

Fun set of conflict resolutions here...
For the mac80211 stuff, these were fortunately just parallel
adds. Trivially resolved.
In drivers/net/phy/phy.c we had a bug fix in 'net' that moved the
function phy_disable_interrupts() earlier in the file, whilst in
'net-next' the phy_error() call from this function was removed.
In net/ipv4/xfrm4_policy.c, David Ahern's changes to remove the
'rt_table_id' member of rtable collided with a bug fix in 'net' that
added a new struct member "rt_mtu_locked" which needs to be copied
over here.
The mlxsw driver conflict consisted of net-next separating
the span code and definitions into separate files, whilst
a 'net' bug fix made some changes to that moved code.
The mlx5 infiniband conflict resolution was quite non-trivial,
the RDMA tree's merge commit was used as a guide here, and
here are their notes:
====================
Due to bug fixes found by the syzkaller bot and taken into the for-rc
branch after development for the 4.17 merge window had already started
being taken into the for-next branch, there were fairly non-trivial
merge issues that would need to be resolved between the for-rc branch
and the for-next branch. This merge resolves those conflicts and
provides a unified base upon which ongoing development for 4.17 can
be based.
Conflicts:
drivers/infiniband/hw/mlx5/main.c - Commit 42cea83f9524
(IB/mlx5: Fix cleanup order on unload) added to for-rc and
commit b5ca15ad7e61 (IB/mlx5: Add proper representors support)
add as part of the devel cycle both needed to modify the
init/de-init functions used by mlx5. To support the new
representors, the new functions added by the cleanup patch
needed to be made non-static, and the init/de-init list
added by the representors patch needed to be modified to
match the init/de-init list changes made by the cleanup
patch.
Updates:
drivers/infiniband/hw/mlx5/mlx5_ib.h - Update function
prototypes added by representors patch to reflect new function
names as changed by cleanup patch
drivers/infiniband/hw/mlx5/ib_rep.c - Update init/de-init
stage list to match new order from cleanup patch

ipv6_chk_addr_and_flags determines if an address is a local address and
optionally if it is an address on a specific device. For example, it is
called by ip6_route_info_create to determine if a given gateway address
is a local address. The address check currently does not consider L3
domains and as a result does not allow a route to be added in one VRF
if the nexthop points to an address in a second VRF. e.g.,
$ ip route add 2001:db8:1::/64 vrf r2 via 2001:db8:102::23
Error: Invalid gateway address.
where 2001:db8:102::23 is an address on an interface in vrf r1.
ipv6_chk_addr_and_flags needs to allow callers to always pass in a device
with a separate argument to not limit the address to the specific device.
The device is used used to determine the L3 domain of interest.
To that end add an argument to skip the device check and update callers
to always pass a device where possible and use the new argument to mean
any address in the domain.
Update a handful of users of ipv6_chk_addr with a NULL dev argument. This
patch handles the change to these callers without adding the domain check.
ip6_validate_gw needs to handle 2 cases - one where the device is given
as part of the nexthop spec and the other where the device is resolved.
There is at least 1 VRF case where deferring the check to only after
the route lookup has resolved the device fails with an unintuitive error
"RTNETLINK answers: No route to host" as opposed to the preferred
"Error: Gateway can not be a local address." The 'no route to host'
error is because of the fallback to a full lookup. The check is done
twice to avoid this error.

On unsuccesful ip6_datagram_connect(), if the failure is caused by
ip6_datagram_dst_update(), the sk peer information are cleared, but
the sk->sk_state is preserved.
If the socket was already in an established status, the overall sk
status is inconsistent and fouls later checks in datagram code.
Fix this saving the old peer information and restoring them in
case of failure. This also aligns ipv6 datagram connect() behavior
with ipv4.

Allow a process bound to a VRF to connect to a linklocal address.
Currently, this fails because of a mismatch between the scope of the
linklocal address and the sk_bound_dev_if inherited by the VRF binding:
$ ssh -6 fe80::70b8:cff:fedd:ead8%eth1
ssh: connect to host fe80::70b8:cff:fedd:ead8%eth1 port 22: Invalid argument
Relax the scope check to allow the socket to be bound to the same L3
device as the scope id.
This makes ipv6 linklocal consistent with other relaxed checks enabled
by commits 1ff23beebdd3 ("net: l3mdev: Allow send on enslaved interface")

refcount_t type and corresponding API should be
used instead of atomic_t when the variable is used as

refcounter overflows that might lead to use-after-free
situations.
This patch uses refcount_inc_not_zero() instead of
atomic_inc_not_zero_hint() due to absense of a _hint()

Syzkaller reported a use-after-free in ip_recv_error at line
info->ipi_ifindex = skb->dev->ifindex;
This function is called on dequeue from the error queue, at which
point the device pointer may no longer be valid.
Save ifindex on enqueue in __skb_complete_tx_timestamp, when the
pointer is valid or NULL. Store it in temporary storage skb->cb.
It is safe to reference skb->dev here, as called from device drivers
or dev_queue_xmit. The exception is when called from tcp_ack_tstamp;
in that case it is NULL and ifindex is set to 0 (invalid).
Do not return a pktinfo cmsg if ifindex is 0. This maintains the
current behavior of not returning a cmsg if skb->dev was NULL.
On dequeue, the ipv4 path will cast from sock_exterr_skb to
in_pktinfo. Both have ifindex as their first element, so no explicit
conversion is needed. This is by design, introduced in commit
0b922b7a829c ("net: original ingress device index in PKTINFO"). For
ipv6 ip6_datagram_support_cmsg converts to in6_pktinfo.

This patch adds a check on the type of the source address for the case
where the destination address is in6addr_any. If the source is an
IPv4-mapped IPv6 source address, the destination is changed to
::ffff:127.0.0.1, and otherwise the destination is changed to ::1. This
is done in three locations to handle UDP calls to either connect() or
sendmsg() and TCP calls to connect(). Note that udpv6_sendmsg() delays
handling an in6addr_any destination until very late, so the patch only
needs to handle the case where the source is an IPv4-mapped IPv6

Couple conflicts resolved here:
1) In the MACB driver, a bug fix to properly initialize the
RX tail pointer properly overlapped with some changes
to support variable sized rings.
2) In XGBE we had a "CONFIG_PM" --> "CONFIG_PM_SLEEP" fix
overlapping with a reorganization of the driver to support
ACPI, OF, as well as PCI variants of the chip.
3) In 'net' we had several probe error path bug fixes to the
stmmac driver, meanwhile a lot of this code was cleaned up
and reorganized in 'net-next'.
4) The cls_flower classifier obtained a helper function in
'net-next' called __fl_delete() and this overlapped with
Daniel Borkamann's bug fix to use RCU for object destruction
in 'net'. It also overlapped with Jiri's change to guard
the rhashtable_remove_fast() call with a check against
tc_skip_sw().
5) In mlx4, a revert bug fix in 'net' overlapped with some
unrelated changes in 'net-next'.
6) In geneve, a stale header pointer after pskb_expand_head()
bug fix in 'net' overlapped with a large reorganization of
the same code in 'net-next'. Since the 'net-next' code no
longer had the bug in question, there was nothing to do
other than to simply take the 'net-next' hunks.

- Use the UID in routing lookups made by protocol connect() and
sendmsg() functions.
- Make sure that routing lookups triggered by incoming packets
(e.g., Path MTU discovery) take the UID of the socket into
account.
- For packets not associated with a userspace socket, (e.g., ping
replies) use UID 0 inside the user namespace corresponding to
the network namespace the socket belongs to. This allows
all namespaces to apply routing and iptables rules to
kernel-originated traffic in that namespaces by matching UID 0.
This is better than using the UID of the kernel socket that is
sending the traffic, because the UID of kernel sockets created
at namespace creation time (e.g., the per-processor ICMP and
TCP sockets) is the UID of the user that created the socket,
which might not be mapped in the namespace.

In the sendmsg function of UDP, raw, ICMP and l2tp sockets, we use local
variables like hlimits, tclass, opt and dontfrag and pass them to corresponding
functions like ip6_make_skb, ip6_append_data and xxx_push_pending_frames.
This is not a good practice and makes it hard to add new parameters.
This fix introduces a new struct ipcm6_cookie similar to ipcm_cookie in
ipv4 and include the above mentioned variables. And we only pass the
pointer to this structure to corresponding functions. This makes it easier
to add new parameters in the future and makes the function cleaner.

This patch adds a release_cb for UDPv6. It does a route lookup
and updates sk->sk_dst_cache if it is needed. It picks up the
left-over job from ip6_sk_update_pmtu() if the sk was owned
by user during the pmtu update.
It takes a rcu_read_lock to protect the __sk_dst_get() operations
because another thread may do ip6_dst_store() without taking the
sk lock (e.g. sendmsg).

There is a case in connected UDP socket such that
getsockopt(IPV6_MTU) will return a stale MTU value. The reproducible
sequence could be the following:
1. Create a connected UDP socket
2. Send some datagrams out
3. Receive a ICMPV6_PKT_TOOBIG
4. No new outgoing datagrams to trigger the sk_dst_check()
logic to update the sk->sk_dst_cache.
5. getsockopt(IPV6_MTU) returns the mtu from the invalid
sk->sk_dst_cache instead of the newly created RTF_CACHE clone.
This patch updates the sk->sk_dst_cache for a connected datagram sk
during pmtu-update code path.
Note that the sk->sk_v6_daddr is used to do the route lookup
instead of skb->data (i.e. iph). It is because a UDP socket can become
connected after sending out some datagrams in un-connected state. or
It can be connected multiple times to different destinations. Hence,
iph may not be related to where sk is currently connected to.
It is done under '!sock_owned_by_user(sk)' condition because
the user may make another ip6_datagram_connect() (i.e changing
the sk->sk_v6_daddr) while dst lookup is happening in the pmtu-update
code path.
For the sock_owned_by_user(sk) == true case, the next patch will
introduce a release_cb() which will update the sk->sk_dst_cache.

Process socket-level control messages by invoking
__sock_cmsg_send in ip6_datagram_send_ctl for control messages on
the SOL_SOCKET layer.
This makes sure whenever ip6_datagram_send_ctl is called for
udp and raw, we also process socket-level control messages.
This is a bit uglier than IPv4, since IPv6 does not have
something like ipcm_cookie. Perhaps we can later create
a control message cookie for IPv6?
Note that this commit interprets new control messages that
were ignored before. As such, this commit does not change

This patch addresses multiple problems :
UDP/RAW sendmsg() need to get a stable struct ipv6_txoptions
while socket is not locked : Other threads can change np->opt
concurrently. Dmitry posted a syzkaller

use-after-free.
Starting with TCP/DCCP lockless listeners, tcp_v6_syn_recv_sock()

to dereference np->opt once (before calling ipv6_dup_options())
This patch adds full RCU protection to np->opt

When reading from the error queue, msg_name and msg_control are only
populated for some errors. A new exception for empty timestamp skbs
added a false positive on icmp errors without payload.
`traceroute -M udpconn` only displayed gateways that return payload
with the icmp error: the embedded network headers are pulled before
sock_queue_err_skb, leaving an skb with skb->len == 0 otherwise.
Fix this regression by refining when msg_name and msg_control
branches are taken. The solutions for the two fields are independent.
msg_name only makes sense for errors that configure serr->port and
serr->addr_offset. Test the first instead of skb->len. This also fixes
another issue. saddr could hold the wrong data, as serr->addr_offset
is not initialized in some code paths, pointing to the start of the
network header. It is only valid when serr->port is set (non-zero).
msg_control support differs between IPv4 and IPv6. IPv4 only honors
requests for ICMP and timestamps with SOF_TIMESTAMPING_OPT_CMSG. The
skb->len test can simply be removed, because skb->dev is also tested
and never true for empty skbs. IPv6 honors requests for all errors
aside from local errors and timestamps on empty skbs.
In both cases, make the policy more explicit by moving this logic to
a new function that decides whether to process msg_control and that
optionally prepares the necessary fields in skb->cb[]. After this
change, the IPv4 and IPv6 paths are more similar.
The last case is rxrpc. Here, simply refine to only match timestamps.

Allow reading of timestamps and cmsg at the same time on all relevant
socket families. One use is to correlate timestamps with egress
device, by asking for cmsg IP_PKTINFO.
on AF_INET sockets, call the relevant function (ip_cmsg_recv). To
avoid changing legacy expectations, only do so if the caller sets a
new timestamping flag SOF_TIMESTAMPING_OPT_CMSG.
on AF_INET6 sockets, IPV6_PKTINFO and all other recv cmsg are already
returned for all origins. only change is to set ifindex, which is
not initialized for all error origins.
In both cases, only generate the pktinfo message if an ifindex is
known. This is not the case for ACK timestamps.
The difference between the protocol families is probably a historical
accident as a result of the different conditions for generating cmsg
in the relevant ip(v6)_recv_error function:
ipv4: if (serr->ee.ee_origin == SO_EE_ORIGIN_ICMP) {
ipv6: if (serr->ee.ee_origin != SO_EE_ORIGIN_LOCAL) {
At one time, this was the same test bar for the ICMP/ICMP6
distinction. This is no longer true.

large rewrite

- on ipv6: initialize fields if not yet initialized
The recv cmsg interfaces are also relevant to the discussion of
whether looping packet headers is problematic. For v6, cmsgs that
identify many headers are already returned. This patch expands
that to v4. If it sounds reasonable, I will follow with patches
1. request timestamps without payload with SOF_TIMESTAMPING_OPT_TSONLY

2. sysctl to conditionally drop all timestamps that have payload or

sk->sk_error_queue is dequeued in four locations. All share the
exact same logic. Deduplicate.
Also collapse the two critical sections for dequeue (at the top of
the recv handler) and signal (at the bottom).
This moves signal generation for the next packet forward, which should
be harmless.
It also changes the behavior if the recv handler exits early with an
error. Previously, a signal for follow-up packets on the errqueue
would then not be scheduled. The new behavior, to always signal, is
arguably a bug fix.
For rxrpc, the change causes the same function to be called repeatedly
for each queued packet (because the recv handler == sk_error_report).
It is likely that all packets will fail for the same reason (e.g.,
memory exhaustion).
This code runs without sk_lock held, so it is not safe to trust that
sk->sk_err is immutable inbetween releasing q->lock and the subsequent
test. Introduce int err just to avoid this potential race.

For a connected socket we can precompute the flow hash for setting
in skb->hash on output. This is a performance advantage over
calculating the skb->hash for every packet on the connection. The
computation is done using the common hash algorithm to be consistent
with computations done for packets of the connection in other states
where thers is no socket (e.g. time-wait, syn-recv, syn-cookies).
This patch adds sk_txhash to the sock structure. inet_set_txhash and
ip6_set_txhash functions are added which are called from points in
TCP and UDP where socket moves to established state.
skb_set_hash_from_sk is a function which sets skb->hash from the
sock txhash value. This is called in UDP and TCP transmit path when
transmitting within the context of a socket.
Tested: ran super_netperf with 200 TCP_RR streams over a vxlan
interface (in this case skb_get_hash called on every TX packet to
create a UDP source port).

We currently don't report IPV6_RECVPKTINFO in cmsg access ancillary data
for IPv4 datagrams on IPv6 sockets.
This patch splits the ip6_datagram_recv_ctl into two functions, one
which handles both protocol families, AF_INET and AF_INET6, while the
ip6_datagram_recv_specific_ctl only handles IPv6 cmsg data.
ip6_datagram_recv_*_ctl never reported back any errors, so we can make
them return void. Also provide a helper for protocols which don't offer dual
personality to further use ip6_datagram_recv_ctl, which is exported to
modules.

As this does not happen any more we have to pass addr_len to those

TCP listener refactoring, part 4 :
To speed up inet lookups, we moved IPv4 addresses from inet to struct
sock_common
Now is time to do the same for IPv6, because it permits us to have fast
lookups for all kind of sockets, including upcoming SYN_RECV.
Getting IPv6 addresses in TCP lookups currently requires two extra cache
lines, plus a dereference (and memory stall).
inet6_sk(sk) does the dereference of inet_sk(__sk)->pinet6
This patch is way bigger than its IPv4 counter part, because for IPv4,
we could add aliases (inet_daddr, inet_rcv_saddr), while on IPv6,
it's not doable easily.
inet6_sk(sk)->daddr becomes sk->sk_v6_daddr
inet6_sk(sk)->rcv_saddr becomes sk->sk_v6_rcv_saddr
And timewait socket also have tw->tw_v6_daddr & tw->tw_v6_rcv_saddr
at the same offset.
We get rid of INET6_TW_MATCH() as INET6_MATCH() is now the generic
macro.

udp6_sock_seq_show and raw6_sock_seq_show are identical, except
the UDP version displays ports and the raw version displays the
protocol. Refactor most of the code in these two functions into
a new common ip6_dgram_sock_seq_show function, in preparation
for using it to display ICMPv6 sockets as well.

This patch requires multicast interface-scoped addresses to supply a
sin6_scope_id. Because the sin6_scope_id is now also correctly used
in case of interface-scoped multicast traffic this enables one to use
interface scoped addresses over interfaces which are not targeted by the
default multicast route (the route has to be put there manually, though).
getsockname() and getpeername() now return the correct sin6_scope_id in
case of interface-local mc addresses.

When support for binding to 'mapped INADDR_ANY (::ffff.0.0.0.0)' was added

wasn't told so now it's possible to bind IPv6 datagram socket to
::ffff.0.0.0.0, connect it to another IPv4 address and it will all
work except for getsockhame() which does not return the local address
as expected.

Route lookups follow a general pattern in the ipv6 code wherein
we first find the non-IPSEC route, potentially override the
flow destination address due to ipv6 options settings, and then
finally make an IPSEC search using either xfrm_lookup() or
__xfrm_lookup().
__xfrm_lookup() is used when we want to generate a blackhole route
if the key manager needs to resolve the IPSEC rules (in this case
-EREMOTE is returned and the original 'dst' is left unchanged).
Otherwise plain xfrm_lookup() is used and when asynchronous IPSEC
resolution is necessary, we simply fail the lookup completely.
All of these cases are encapsulated into two routines,
ip6_dst_lookup_flow and ip6_sk_dst_lookup_flow. The latter of which
handles unconnected UDP datagram sockets.

commit 30fff923 introduced in linux-2.6.33 (udp: bind() optimisation)
added a secondary hash on UDP, hashed on (local addr, local port).
Problem is that following sequence :
fd = socket(...)
connect(fd, &remote, ...)
not only selects remote end point (address and port), but also sets
local address, while UDP stack stored in secondary hash table the socket
while its local address was INADDR_ANY (or ipv6 equivalent)
Sequence is :
- autobind() : choose a random local port, insert socket in hash tables
[while local address is INADDR_ANY]
- connect() : set remote address and port, change local address to IP
given by a route lookup.
When an incoming UDP frame comes, if more than 10 sockets are found in
primary hash table, we switch to secondary table, and fail to find
socket because its local address changed.
One solution to this problem is to rehash datagram socket if needed.
We add a new rehash(struct socket *) method in "struct proto", and
implement this method for UDP v4 & v6, using a common helper.
This rehashing only takes care of secondary hash table, since primary
hash (based on local port only) is not changed.

There are more than a dozen occurrences of following code in the
IPv6 stack:
if (opt && opt->srcrt) {
struct rt0_hdr *rt0 = (struct rt0_hdr *) opt->srcrt;
ipv6_addr_copy(&final, &fl.fl6_dst);
ipv6_addr_copy(&fl.fl6_dst, rt0->addr);
final_p = &final;
}
Replace those with a helper. Note that the helper overrides final_p
in all cases. This is ok as final_p was previously initialized to

I noticed when I added support for IPV6_DONTFRAG that if you set
IPV6_RECVERR and tried to send a UDP packet larger than 64K to an
IPv6 destination, you'd correctly get an EMSGSIZE, but reading from
MSG_ERRQUEUE returned the incorrect address in the cmsg:
struct msghdr:
msg_name 0x7fff8f3c96d0
msg_namelen 28
struct sockaddr_in6:
sin6_family 10
sin6_port 7639
sin6_flowinfo 0
sin6_addr ::ffff:38.32.0.0
sin6_scope_id 0 ((null))
It should have returned this in my case:
struct msghdr:
msg_name 0x7fffd866b510
msg_namelen 28
struct sockaddr_in6:
sin6_family 10
sin6_port 7639
sin6_flowinfo 0
sin6_addr 2620:0:a09:e000:21f:29ff:fe57:f88b
sin6_scope_id 0 ((null))
The problem is that ipv6_recv_error() assumes that if the error
wasn't generated by ICMPv6, it's an IPv4 address sitting there,
and proceeds to create a v4-mapped address from it.
Change ipv6_icmp_error() and ipv6_local_error() to set skb->protocol
to htons(ETH_P_IPV6) so that ipv6_recv_error() knows the address
sitting right after the extended error is IPv6, else it will
incorrectly map the first octet into an IPv4-mapped IPv6 address
in the cmsg structure returned in a recvmsg() call to obtain
the error.

implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h
percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being
included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which
in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files
universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies.
percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for
this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those
headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion
needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is
used as the basis of conversion.
http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py
The script does the followings.
* Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that
only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used,
gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h.
* When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include
blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms
to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains
core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered -
alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there
doesn't seem to be any matching order.
* If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly
because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out
an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the
file.
The conversion was done in the following steps.
1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly
over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h
and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400
files.
2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion,
some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or
embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added
inclusions to around 150 files.
3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits
from #2 to make sure no file was left behind.
4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed.
e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab
APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually.
5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically
editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h
files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h
inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually
wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each
slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as
necessary.
6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h.
7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures
were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my
distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few
more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things
build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq).
* x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config.
* powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig
* sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig
* ia64 SMP allmodconfig
* s390 SMP allmodconfig
* alpha SMP allmodconfig
* um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig
8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as
a separate patch and serve as bisection point.
Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step
6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch.
If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch
headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of
the specific arch.

In order to have better cache layouts of struct sock (separate zones
for rx/tx paths), we need this preliminary patch.
Goal is to transfert fields used at lookup time in the first
read-mostly cache line (inside struct sock_common) and move sk_refcnt
to a separate cache line (only written by rx path)
This patch adds inet_ prefix to daddr, rcv_saddr, dport, num, saddr,

This patch makes most of the generic device layer network
namespace safe. This patch makes dev_base_head a
network namespace variable, and then it picks up
a few associated variables. The functions:
dev_getbyhwaddr
dev_getfirsthwbytype
dev_get_by_flags
dev_get_by_name
__dev_get_by_name
dev_get_by_index
__dev_get_by_index
dev_ioctl
dev_ethtool
dev_load
wireless_process_ioctl
were modified to take a network namespace argument, and
deal with it.
vlan_ioctl_set and brioctl_set were modified so their
hooks will receive a network namespace argument.
So basically anthing in the core of the network stack that was
affected to by the change of dev_base was modified to handle
multiple network namespaces. The rest of the network stack was
simply modified to explicitly use &init_net the initial network
namespace. This can be fixed when those components of the network
stack are modified to handle multiple network namespaces.
For now the ifindex generator is left global.
Fundametally ifindex numbers are per namespace, or else
we will have corner case problems with migration when
we get that far.
At the same time there are assumptions in the network stack
that the ifindex of a network device won't change. Making
the ifindex number global seems a good compromise until
the network stack can cope with ifindex changes when
you change namespaces, and the like.

This patch makes MIPv6 loadable module named "mip6".
Here is a modprobe.conf(5) example to load it automatically
when user application uses XFRM state for MIPv6:
alias xfrm-type-10-43 mip6
alias xfrm-type-10-60 mip6
Some MIPv6 feature is not included by this modular, however,
it should not be affected to other features like either IPsec
or IPv6 with and without the patch.
We may discuss XFRM, MH (RAW socket) and ancillary data/sockopt
separately for future work.
Loadable features:
* MH receiving check (to send ICMP error back)
* RO header parsing and building (i.e. RH2 and HAO in DSTOPTS)
* XFRM policy/state database handling for RO
These are NOT covered as loadable:
* Home Address flags and its rule on source address selection
* XFRM sub policy (depends on its own kernel option)
* XFRM functions to receive RO as IPv6 extension header
* MH sending/receiving through raw socket if user application
opens it (since raw socket allows to do so)
* RH2 sending as ancillary data
* RH2 operation with setsockopt(2)

The current IPSEC rule resolution behavior we have does not work for a
lot of people, even though technically it's an improvement from the
-EAGAIN buisness we had before.
Right now we'll block until the key manager resolves the route. That
works for simple cases, but many folks would rather packets get
silently dropped until the key manager resolves the IPSEC rules.
We can't tell these folks to "set the socket non-blocking" because
they don't have control over the non-block setting of things like the
sockets used to resolve DNS deep inside of the resolver libraries in
libc.
With that in mind I coded up the patch below with some help from
Herbert Xu which provides packet-drop behavior during larval state
resolution, controllable via sysctl and off by default.
This lays the framework to either:
1) Make this default at some point or...
2) Move this logic into xfrm{4,6}_policy.c and implement the
ARP-like resolution queue we've all been dreaming of.
The idea would be to queue packets to the policy, then
once the larval state is resolved by the key manager we
re-resolve the route and push the packets out. The
packets would timeout if the rule didn't get resolved
in a certain amount of time.

So that it is also an offset from skb->head, reduces its size from 8 to 4 bytes
on 64bit architectures, allowing us to combine the 4 bytes hole left by the
layer headers conversion, reducing struct sk_buff size to 256 bytes, i.e. 4
64byte cachelines, and since the sk_buff slab cache is SLAB_HWCACHE_ALIGN...
:-)
Many calculations that previously required that skb->{transport,network,
mac}_header be first converted to a pointer now can be done directly, being
meaningful as offsets or pointers.

These are a bit more subtle, they are of this type:
- skb->h.raw = payload;
__skb_pull(skb, payload - skb->data);
+ skb_reset_transport_header(skb);
__skb_pull results in:
skb->data = skb->data + payload - skb->data;
skb->data = payload;
So after __skb_pull we have skb->data pointing to payload and we can
just call skb_reset_transport_header(skb), that will do:
skb->h.raw = payload;
The others are similar, allowing us to get rid of some more cases where a
pointer was being attributed to the layer headers.

Now the skb->nh union has just one member, .raw, i.e. it is just like the
skb->mac union, strange, no? I'm just leaving it like that till the transport
layer is done with, when we'll rename skb->mac.raw to skb->mac_header (or
->mac_header_offset?), ditto for ->{h,nh}.

For the places where we need a pointer to the network header, it is still legal
to touch skb->nh.raw directly if just adding to, subtracting from or setting it
to another layer header.

Now related to this form:
skb->nh.ipv6h = (struct ipv6hdr *)skb_put(skb, length);
That, as the others, is done when skb->tail is still equal to skb->data, making
the conversion to skb_reset_network_header possible.
Also one more case equivalent to skb->nh.raw = skb->data, of this form:
iph = (struct ipv6hdr *)skb->data;
<SNIP>
skb->nh.ipv6h = iph;

After Al Viro (finally) succeeded in removing the sched.h #include in module.h
recently, it makes sense again to remove other superfluous sched.h includes.
There are quite a lot of files which include it but don't actually need
anything defined in there. Presumably these includes were once needed for
macros that used to live in sched.h, but moved to other header files in the
course of cleaning it up.
To ease the pain, this time I did not fiddle with any header files and only
removed #includes from .c-files, which tend to cause less trouble.
Compile tested against 2.6.20-rc2 and 2.6.20-rc2-mm2 (with offsets) on alpha,
arm, i386, ia64, mips, powerpc, and x86_64 with allnoconfig, defconfig,
allmodconfig, and allyesconfig as well as a few randconfigs on x86_64 and all
configs in arch/arm/configs on arm. I also checked that no new warnings were
introduced by the patch (actually, some warnings are removed that were emitted
by unnecessarily included header files).

In light of my recent patch to net/ipv4/udp.c that replaced the
spin_lock_irq calls on the receive queue lock with spin_lock_bh,
here is a similar patch for all other occurences of spin_lock_irq
on receive/error queue locks in IPv4 and IPv6.
In these stacks, we know that they can only be entered from user
or softirq context. Therefore it's safe to disable BH only.

Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history,
even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git
archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about
3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early
git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good
infrastructure for it.
Let it rip!
